In addition to the laboratory fee set by the lab, the doctor charges a separate fee to cover the time he spends, away from the patient, to interpret lab results. The handling fee includes the time spent ordering lab test kits, processing lab samples collected, shipping lab results and other administrative tasks involved with lab handling.
